leaving on a jet plane…..

So it’s t-minus 6 hours before the Joneses leave for Ohio. 10 days we will be gone. I look forward to it but this is one of those trips that when I get back I start a new with my career. My last day at Whole Foods Market, La Jolla was Sunday. The day was as typical with the great interaction with customers as well as spending time with great co-workers as any Sunday, but it went by too fast. I was able to take pictures with my kick-ass camera on my cellphone so I have some memories to take with me.

It really hasn’t gotten to me that I’m starting a new position (still with Whole Foods Market, this time Hillcrest). It’s really not a new position since it’s something that I’m fully trained in. It’s a new store, my 4th WFM. I don’t think it’s going to sink in when I’m trying to look for parking and I walk into that office. Or maybe it will when I call and check in to see what my schedule is.

My thoughts are racing right now and the funny thing it’s not about what I might be forgetting for my trip. It’s the excitement of what’s to come.

I better go to sleep. I’ll post updates as the trip goes on.

one lucky b*tch!

This week has been quite interesting. Tuesday I did my usual routine. I got up, got Rhys and I ready for the day, dropped off Rhys at daycare and then headed to work. As I’m getting out of the car I notice that I don’t have my wedding rings on. So I reach into my pocket like I have for the last 6 years since I have had my engagement ring/wedding ring and notice that I only have my wedding ring. I don’t freak out at first because I could have left it on the counter in our bathroom or it’s just sitting on the seat in my car.

I have about 10 minutes before I have to clock in for work so I head back to my car and look around for my ring. This task is going to be easy since Steve just cleaned out my car. As I open the door I notice it’s not on the seat or on the floor. No worries I’ll call Steve since he’s still home and have him check to see if in fact I left it on the counter. I call and he says it’s not there. But still not to worry because I had to change Rhys’ shirt twice today because he threw up (still a bit under the weather from a cold) so it could be on the floor in my living room.

Well I guess that’s all I can do for now. My 10 minutes are up and I have to clock in for work. As I count my drawer and talk to my supervisor about my morning I realize; “Oh crap, what happens if I actually lost it?”, “Will Steve be mad that I lost my diamond engagement ring?” I try not to get to engrossed with my thoughts before I realize that there is one more possible place that it could have fallen out of my pocket. My daycare provider’s house. I did drop off Rhys this morning. So I call her and ask if she can look. I describe where I parked and the path I walked to the front door. She said she would be happy to do it.

Ok, all possible places have been checked and now it’s just a matter of waiting.

Now when something like this happens to me I tend to talk everyone’s ear off about it. The frist 2 hours of my shift my regular customers come through my line to grab breakfast and/or lunch for the day. Most of them heard about my situation as well as co-workers who asked me how I was doing today. They allllll heard about it.

2 hours later I get my first break of the day. I notice there is a message on my cellphone and quickly go outside to check it. It’s Pat, my daycare provider. SHE FOUND IT!!!!!! I shouted a loud WOOOHOOOOO and immediately felt a sign of relief.

The rest of my shift I was one happy camper and still continued to tell my story this time ending it with “I’m one lucky b*tch!”.

When I arrived at Pat’s house to get Rhys I came equipped with a fruit tart from work to say thanks for finding my ring and when I saw her she said that as soon as she got off the phone with me she went outside and immediately found it. The sun had come out and was shining on my ring. She said that she noticed it sparkling there on her driveway.

Even though this was a scary situation I’m not going to make drastic changes to ensure this doesn’t happen again. I’m just not going to put my rings in my front pockets. They are going in my deep back pockets. I usually do that but this particular morning was different since Rhys was sick.

Man, I’m one lucky b*tch.

A promotion…

I had a job interview for a back-up graphic designer at work on Thursday. It’s been a few days but I’m happy to say that I got the job. I’m really excited. New Store, raise and an opportunity to be that much closer to the goal of being a “signmaker” again with Whole Foods Market.

WOOOHOOO!

a 2 year-old and a sharpie

We let Rhys go upstairs and play all the time and really don’t worry since there isn’t anything for him to get into. Well that has changed now that he can get into my sewing room. He got in earlier today and played with the videos on the shelf, no big deal. But tonight while Steve and I were finishing up watching ER from last night we noticed it had been too quiet upstairs and wondered what he might be doing.

As Steve and I get to the top of the stairs we were greeted with a little boy with a sharpie in his hand with the top off. Here are some pictures:

This was a laugh out loud situation. But as I was giving Rhys a bath and Steve was cleaning off the marker we couldn’t help but notice that Rhys was wearing a different pair of shorts from when he came upstairs to play after dinner. We think he took off his jean shorts and put on his green ones and then went crazy with the sharpie. He has been trying to put his clothes on my himself for a while now but were amazed that he may have finally gotten the concept tonight.

What a way to spend a Friday night.

An opportunity…

I found out Saturday that there was a position at another SD WFM location that falls right into my ideal career. After some much appreciated “good words” from co-workers and my persistence I got an interview. It’s Thursday and I’m really into research mode right now.

Maybe that’s why I haven’t really been sleeping good the last few nights.

Rhys has been sick that last few days. Fever, vomiting, lack of appetite, etc. Steve has been a saint taking care of him since I have been having to get up early for work. When I got home today Rhys greeted me as usual at the door but he surprised me with his little “Barry White” voice from all the congestion in his chest. I don’t know why but no matter the state of my son, sick or well, he’s just so damn cute.

I better hit the hay. Another early day and then the finishing touches on my presentation for my interview.
